John Mayer - Where The Light Is

Nei suoi album in studio John Mayer ha dimostrato di essere un eccellente cantante compositore e chitarrista, a volte pero' distaccato emozionalmente. In questo doppio cd dal vivo registrato l'8 dicembre 2007 invece l'atmosfera e' perfetta per poter ascoltare questo artista del Conneticut non sufficientemente apprezzato in Europa, e in Italia in particolare.

Il concerto e' diviso in tre parti: inizio in solitudine, solo voce e chitarra acustica, per un set di 5 brani pregevolissimi tra cui la cover di "Free Fallin" di Tom Petty. A seguire la formazione in trio con Pino Palladino al basso e Steve Jordan alla batteria per una torrida performance jazz-blues-rock tra cui spiccano le hendrixiane "Bold as Love" e "Wait Until Tomorrow" e i 10 minuti di chitarra blues-rock allo stato puro di "Out Of My Mind".

Nel secondo CD la scaletta vede protagonista la band al completo per una carrellata di brani dagli album di studio. Bellissime versioni dell' hit del 2006 "Waiting for the World to Change" e di "Gravity", preceduta  da una citazione di "I've Got Dreams to Remember" di Otis Redding.

Se pensavate che John Mayer fosse l'ennesimo cantautore in bilico fra rock e pop, ricredetevi!
